Video: How to Slow Brain Aging by Two Years

The consumption of blueberries and strawberries is associated with delayed cognitive aging by as much as 2.5 years—thought to be because of brain-localizing anthocyanin phytonutrients, as shown on functional MRI scans.

Running time: 5 minutes.

A note from Dr. Greger:

What other ways could we improve our memory and cognitive function?

What other near-miraculous properties of berries are there?

Berries are one of my daily dozen of the healthiest of healthy foods I encourage everyone to include in their daily diet (check out Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen Checklist. I add them to my morning smoothie: A Better Breakfast.

I used to be addicted to cheese, but now I’m addicted to Dr. Greger’s videos.

I eat blueberries almost all year ( organic, whenever available). Still do some eggs and cheese and yoghurt, but no meat. Look forward to reading this in depth after morning meditation.

I watch Dr. Greger’s videos with great interest. Extensive research demonstrates beyond doubt that the closer our diet is to that of our Paleolithic ancestors, the healthier we are. That is, emphasizing a variety of plant foods — greens, seeds, pulses, fruit, mushrooms, allium and tubers — while eliminating animal foods, especially dairy, is essential for maintaining health. The idea that prehistoric humans consumed large amounts of fish and game originated in the fact that bones, sea shells and flint dominate the fossil record while plant remains disappear.

I eliminate animal foods altogether out of compassion for animals and a concern for the environment, but I believe a small amount of meat can be tolerated in a healthy diet. My wife Eva consumes a bit of fish and cheese now and then, and it doesn’t seem to harm her.
