Vox Populi

A Public Sphere for Poetry, Politics, and Nature

John Samuel Tieman: Haibun

he pencils me in
the doctor hints of cancer
but we’ll talk next week

What should I do as the end of summer approaches? Earlier today, when I went to the window, I didn’t feel like looking. Still, I went to the window. In the light, I found the trucks and the noise and the trees and, therefore, the harmony.

my wife brings extra
thick pillows and opiates
an operation
weeks of recovery and
birds I feed while I’m resting
