Audio: Call Me Antifa

“Call Me Antifa” is a powerful modern protest anthem that redefines what it means to stand for freedom, justice, and democracy in America. Inspired by the spirit of the Greatest Generation who fought fascism in World War II, this song celebrates love over hate, peace over violence, and liberty over authoritarianism. With lyrics that honor unity, diversity, and the enduring American dream, “Call Me Antifa” pushes back against the fear and division spread by MAGA extremism and political scapegoating. This is a song for everyone who believes that being truly patriotic means standing up for civil rights, equality, and democracy itself.

If you’ ve already found the book “Wannabe Fascists” you can ignore this, but if not I urge everyone to read it. Fantastic reading by a scholar of fascism who lays out exactly the steps it takes, the methods it uses, and carefully shows the parallels between the rise of fascism in other nations and development of the same here in the US every day. The differences between populism adn fascism are also carefully laid out. Get it. https://www.ucpress.edu/books/the-wannabe-fascists/hardcover

In an email, Kim Stafford pointed out that this video tugs at his heart, and he agrees with its message, but the video is AI generated, and he finds it offensive that it’s derived from generations of human artists who have created original art.

My own thinking on the subject of using AI, perhaps misguided, is that we should use the weapons of the empire against the empire. Let me know your thoughts on this issue. I’m looking for guidance.

using AI to create art and then posting the art to the outer world is a conundrum for me at this time. I’ve used it for two artistic purposes, 1) by giving it a prompt to write a poem based on a title of my own, with the length I want, etc. and then seeing what it can do. B- grade from me, but improving as it learns more. It still seems to write with a smile on its face, a sort of cloying voice.

        2) more problematically, seeing if I can steal an image from it. So far, no, but it does mix in a good line from time to time. I just marvel at it. best, probably to write the poem on my own, and then see what it can do, and if it outdoes me… I need to work some more.

My latest had a title Tapestry of Vegetation, and the AI poem went with that sort of ecological theme. I then googled the phrase without asking for a poem, and turns out Tapestry of Vegetation exists as an art form, also called Verdure Tapestry. No sign of that in the poem. The ethics of turning it loose, knowing it has stolen from poets of the past, some within and some previous to current copyright parameters, still keeps me scratching my head.

Just for fun, as I wrote this, I asked Google to write a poem called Tapestry of Vegetation in the style of Emily Dickinson. As there is no copyright on AI stuff, here is what it came up with:

        A Tapestry of Vegetation—
        A Green, bewildering—Cloth—
        Woven of Summers—and of Springs—
        And fastened—to the Earth—

        The Dandelion—first—a Thread—
        A Yellow—little Skein—
        The Clover—following—a Knot—
        The Violet—a Stain—

        The Grass—a broader, common Band—
        To hold the—smaller—in—
        Its purpose—not to stand alone—
        But bind the—Vast—within—

        The Moss—a Velvet—for the Floor—
        A silent—Carpet laid—
        The sturdy Hemlock—and the Fir—
        The Tapestry—is made—

        It knows—no Color—save its own—
        No—Pattern—but its growth—
        So—simple—is the Master-work—
        We pass it—with no—Troth—

How much of it is AI generated? Lyrics, melody, everything, or just the image used?

Trump and his cronies are fascists, so of course they are going after people who value freedom.
