Vegan Kitchen: Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream

This chocolate banana ice cream is delicious, healthy, and the perfect way to satisfy a sweet tooth. It has no dairy or refined sugar, and it’s super easy to make. You don’t even need an ice cream maker to prepare it!

A recipe from Evelisse Capó, PharmD, DipACLM

Ingredients

  • 3 bananas peeled and frozen for at least 8 hours
  • ¼ cup unsweetened plant-based milk
  • 3 Tbsp cacao powder
  • ¼-½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 sliced strawberries
  • 3 chopped walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons chopped dark chocolate

Instructions

  • 1. Place frozen bananas and plant-based milk in a food processor or blender.
  • 2. Process until smooth.
  • 3. Add the cacao powder and the cinnamon.
  • 4. Process until well blended.
  • 5. Place in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
  • 6. Scoop into four bowls and garnish with strawberries, walnuts and dark chocolate

Enjoy immediately!

Serves 4.

That sounds delicious. For years I’ve been making a simpler version (just bananas!) I call Banana Creamy: Slice up a ripe banana. Put the slices in a glass mason jar. Freeze. When you want a Banana Creamy dessert, put the slices in a food processor and run the food processor until the banana is creamy enough for you. (There may still be some lumps.) Spoon into a bowl. Eat. 🙂

Sounds great! This time of year I often don’t feel like a whole meal, so a frutopia is lovely.

Thanks, Stephanie. I think we all need a break from the oppressive political news. Sometimes you just need a bowl of ice cream.
