Video: What Men Fear Most

.

London-based actor and poet Elliot Barnes-Worrel’s new film focuses on the emotional affects of modern masculinity:

“Masculinity is something that people kill and die for….If you are emotional you are feared and targeted, therefore protecting a false concept of masculine identity is what we do, even at the cost of our mental health.”

I am stunned into speechlessness by your work. As a 66-year-old woman, I feel as if I have never seen such a succinct, moving, on target depiction of maleness in our culture and probably in many others. Being female has its own challenges and those are all over the news these days – finally – but your work touches on something that few men can even articulate to themselves. It is what keeps us all separate. I recognize all the men in my life. Thank you for your courage and your talent.

Probably true for some men, certainly not for me. I never played any sport so maybe that made a difference in my behavior. Communication was always easy with my parents.
