I turn away from the news
To the open book of Musō Soseki
Where he writes that inside his heart
He keeps three thousand prancing horses.
The heater comes on and it’s early afternoon,
The middle of January, and out there
its grey wind and saturated lawns
And at the end of the dog walk I have to
Really rub down those soft soaked paws,
And you press down a little too hard
Because all I want to do is go back
To my chair and my desk and read
About Heaven Peak, and hope
That mountains are still holding it up.

Thank you for the breath that came through. I read Chinese poets and then sometimes I forget to go into those spaces where there are Heaven Peaks and dancing horses.

Good to know some people are still noticing the finer things, the eternal gifts.
