Vox Populi

A Public Sphere for Poetry, Politics, and Nature

Mike James: Memory Is A Train

that makes frequent stops

for new passengers

and for water

to cool the engine

and, of course, to hand off

to thieves on horseback

who happen along

with masks, lassos,

threats, and six-shooters

they are the ones who

took away

your first love,

your second,

and your third

also the ones

who made you forget

the name

of the game you played

with a only a tennis ball,

two rocks,

and that boy from

down the street
