John Samuel Tieman: For Thine Is The Kingdom

after a confession
and The Stations

Of The Cross
after the Mass

and the benediction
after the deli

for breakfast
and the Sunday stroll home

after these two make love
and he naps

the wife rises
puts on her slip

checks on her baby
lifts her

holds her up by the armpits
holds her over her head

sways almost dances almost prays
for this blessed secret life

that’s more
than she ever expected
