Ronny and Suly are in love. The only problem is that Ronny is in the US, while Suly is in Guatemala. LOVE IN THE TIME OF MIGRATION illustrates the modern day romance between two individuals from a community deeply impacted by migration, and asks the question: Can love conquer all?

A beautiful film, both a heart breaking and heart warming. Similarly, my wife and I met in 2006, she in Colombia and I in the States. I then flew to Colombia, usually twice a year, for a weeklong visit (more if we were lucky, but the standard was one week) for 18 years. Luckily I’m a US citizen (the dumb luck of geography). We married in Colombia in 2021 and, after a hefty chunk paid to an immigration attorney, she arrived here in January of last year.
Just over a month later, I was diagnosed with throat cancer which, after a brutal summer of treatment, has metastasized to my lungs. That essay is in the works, although it may morph into a book. The wonderful news is that, thus far, the treatment is effective. Stay tuned.

Oh, Matt, you have struggled so long, and now just as you’ve found happiness, you have new challenges. I admire your perseverance!

Thanks. We are, however, blissfully happy and cherish every moment together, and that is a gift too many out there lack.
