For over seven months, a dominant conversation in the U.S. news media has been about alleged antisemitism on American campuses – culminating in the coverage around student encampments. The “Gaza solidarity encampment” at Columbia University, in particular, has received a lot of attention which sparked encampments across the country — as well as university-backed police violence. In this video, Dr. Bruce Robbins, a Jewish professor at Columbia University who supports students protesting the university’s investments in companies and programs that uphold Israeli apartheid, speaks to the problem of using false anti-semitism charges to divert attention from the genocide in Gaza.

I admire Professor Robbins for speaking out so clearly and reasonably about an issue that so many people, especially at Columbia University, are afraid of.

I just posted this on social media. I pondered what to write above it. Perhaps a silly happy birthday meme to get it through the censors? Do I really feel that paranoid? Yes. I may post again in a few hours and see if friends acknowledge it, but usually when I repost something like this that I feel is important, I see few likes whereas a happy birthday or cute dog meme gets many, many more likes and comments. Thank you for giving us a voice of reason b

Spot on. Thanks for posting. Some Jews, like this professor, see with an actual Jewish heart. Another Jew who would understand: “Apartheid is, in my view, as abhorrent as anti-Semitism.” And: “Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must—at that moment—become the center of the universe.” Both quotes from Elie Wiesel.
Gaza must be the center of the universe at this moment.
