Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Solid things crumble
And shiny things rust
*
A world of teapots
Milk bottles
And neatly folded sheets
*
The mannequins in this store window
Taper down to nothing
And have no heads
As if a woman
Should rise from nothing
And think not at all
*
The houses squat in their all-alikeness
In their fragile resistance to the street
For which they are no match
