Peter Makuck: Two Poems

.

Left

Someone left last night
a cardboard box on our porch.
I open the flaps—

a bowl of milk, and two
black kittens with light blue eyes.

.

Response

Mockingbirds converse
With a catchy song outside
My study window,

Maybe to prick my attention
And prompt this response at last.

Peter Makuck’s many books include Mandatory Evacuations (BOA, 2016).

Thank you. What happened to the kittens? My mind has been all over the place with them.

Ah, I love those two poems! Seemingly simple, right? But it’s that seemingly! The art of of to write the short, impactful poem is something that fascinates me! I’m a fan of these.
