Mike James: Player Piano

The player piano is winding down.

No one at the bar can fix it.

There’s not a phone number for anyone to call.

Every song is like mice walking slowly across tin.

.

We still gather around the piano to stomp our feet.

Frank and Libby sing duets like always.

Frank still mispronounces most words.

Libby is loud enough no one notices.

Mike James’ many collections include Jumping Drawbridges in Technicolor (Blue Horse, 2019)
