In this evocative short film from Flanders, Olli is a lonely teenage boy who makes trouble whenever he can. He spends his days riding his motorcycle and hanging around the park. He lives with his grandmother because his mother has been diagnosed with cancer. Insecure about her future, she suggests throwing a party in the hospital for Olli’s upcoming birthday, but since Olli has no friends to invite, he first tries to find excuses to cancel the party, then relents. Now he has to find people who will agree to come to his sixteenth birthday party…

What a monument to depression. No happy ending. The future will in time enact a penalty for each life. Character is destiny. Unsmiling, sleepless, totally ruthless concentration upon oneself leads to solitude, ineffectiveness, and despair. The mother, condemned in body, alone has the generosity of spirit which will save her. Her son’s fate s uncertain.
