just up from the river
a fashionable hotel

where the best folks disappear
into the evening
that’s where the slave pen was
the exact address isn’t important

nor is the bill of lading
here folks were sold where
real estate deals are made today
what America sells is a choice

who America sells is important
a family at a bargain rate
