Walter Bargen: Interruption to the End

I haven’t seen the end

or if I did see the end

I didn’t know. A litany

of denials the most blindingly likely,

and now I spend too much time

thinking about the end,

conspiring to pretend

to say something of the end,

and then a piece of the end

arrives instantly intact from

half-a-continent away,

a phone call, a jogging trail

that went awry,

a hundred degree heat,

a trail with a new end

as old as any and all of us.
