at the bottom of one ocean
sits a rock that hides another ocean
at the bottom of that ocean
another rock hides another ocean
then another rock,
another ocean
like a bad board game this seems
to go on forever
eventually, oceans give out
(though not quite as quickly as us)
the board game ends and even the
loneliest neighbor goes home
still, the question’s asked
what’s at the bottom of that final ocean?
simply a rock with sand beneath
sifting possibilities
