Video: Deep Purple’s “Child in Time” played on medieval instruments

No, this is not a Monty Python skit, but an interesting fusion of two different styles of music: famous rock songs played in a distinctively European folk style — Medieval Belarusian folk, performed by the beautifully named Stary Olsa. The band’s name derives from a stream in East Belarus—their clothing, instrumentation, and rhythms from an early Lithuanian state called the Grand Duchy. Because of their excellent musicianship, the Belarusian band, already very popular in their home country, is currently finding a strong international following that few Belarusian bands have achieved.
