In 1959, four albums were recorded that took music in a new direction : Kind of Blue by Miles Davis; Time Out by Dave Brubeck; Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus; and The Shape of Jazz to Come by Ornette Coleman. These LPs changed not only the future of jazz, but the future of America. This BBC documentary features interviews with Brubeck, Coleman, Lou Reed, Herbie Hancock and many others, as well as extended takes from the albums themselves.
