On August 4, 2014 the tailings pond of the gold and copper open-pit Polley Mine, operated by Imperial Metals in British Columbia, breached and sent billions of gallons of metals-laden silt and water into waterways awaiting the return of the salmon.
Here is aerial footage of the destruction caused by the breach — which Canadian officials are calling an environmental and economic disaster.
