A Public Sphere for Poetry, Politics, and Nature

Peter Schireson: Good Morning

Dogs waking up,
cars waking up,
houses blink into light.

Across the street, Ginkgo
sway in the breeze
like a gospel choir.

On the sidewalk, cat
carcass, mis-angled leg,
ants on a glistening eye.

Let’s get moving—
the day is eager
to digest us.
