Hallelujah
Now, I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don’t even know the name
But if I did, well really, what’s it to you?
There’s a blaze of light in every word
It doesn’t matter which you heard
The holy or the broken hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand before the lord of song
With nothing on my tongue but hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

These are new words about struggling for social justice I wrote a while back. If anyone wants to use them, feel free. Last time I sang it, was in front of about 100 people joining in the chorus with an especially joyous last chorus with raised fists.
Have fun.
HALLELUJAH by Leonard Cohen, new words by Mel Packer 4/29/2016
I heard there was a place for me
A world in which we’d all be free
But now I know it’s just a goddam lie
It goes like this, you work real hard
You give your life and play your cards
But the dealers always singing Hallelujah
C: Hallelujah chorus 4 lines.
Well, your faith was strong, and you played ball
You paid your bills and gave your all
But every day, your future just got dimmer
No matter how much more you gave
Raised your kids and tried to save
The dealer’s still the boss singing Hallelujah
C:
Well, you know that I’ve been here before
I’ve hit the bars, walked out the door
Thinking I could leave it all behind
But then I started thinking ‘bout
What if we just all walked out
And started singing our own Hallelujah
C:
So now I know it don’t make sense
To quit the fight and fold our tents
Together we can make a brand new world
Just gotta hold our fists up high
Together we can reach the sky
And hear our mighty choir sing Hallelujah
C: repeat as desired.
