Timons Esaias: It Only Takes One

It only takes one really

good lie

to get the truth off your back.

Just insist, for instance, that

the Earth

is merely an over-elaborate metaphor.

Just insist, for instance, that before

the Goddess

we were immortal and all this is a muddled dream.

Just insist, for instance, that

true freedom

is found only in flagrant falsehood.

Just do that, and they won’t

argue much,

but will sputter and fume and leave you alone.

Just lie, and stick to it,

and physics,

responsibility, even fact, can take no hold.

I think Timons just said that it’s easier to get through life by lying or at least more peaceful than trying to get people to believe the truth.
