John Samuel Tieman: Family Plot

History of Poetry

this afternoon’s brief
history of poetry —
I take out the trash
a hungry robin I know
sings for her dinner raisin

Family Plot

sis and I search for
ancestors we know – we find
sis’ prepaid headstone
(1936 – )
we debate where I will go

Saigon Tanka

forty years later
after the Fall of Saigon
a jay calls a jay
a veteran weeds his yard
of all the small bones of time
