Dear American left (what left?
who’s left?):
could it be that while we were stamping
our feet in righteousness
the Right ran off with the store?
Could it be that while we were busting
each other’s chops
about miniscule infractions of this or that
the Right was building
their corporate tyranny
and getting ready
to steal all the money?
We’ve got to ask ourselves
are we connected
with the poor?
With labor?
With people who do not have an Audi
to stick a bumper sticker on?
Who are we? When I see
black people
presently engaged in disciplined
nonviolent protest against
police brutality
I see the way back.
Once again, they’re showing us how.
